Top 10 Characters in 2011

I've decided to join the Top 10 of 2011 awesomeness hosted by Confessions of a Bookaholic, A Life Bound By Books, Fiktshun and Two Chicks on Books! Every day this week, we'll be sharing our top 10 for various different topics. Oh my word... it's so hard to pick just 10!

Today's topic...

There were a ridiculously large amount of awesome characters in the books I read this year... this topic is near impossible to narrow down! To help a little, I'm going with the books I read for the first time in 2011 (sorry Katniss, Amy, and a million other characters). I'm also going to omit those characters from the Book Boyfriends post and add some honorable mentions... because, like I said, it's near impossible to narrow down this topic! So without further ado, here are my top 10(ish) characters of 2011 (in no particular order):

Mo from Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke
Mo is one seriously kick-butt character. I really kind of fell in love with this dedicated, book loving, heroic papa in Inkheart... and I haven't stopped my love and admiration for him. Talk about a strong character in every sense of the word. Mo freakin' rocks.

Puck from The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
Puck is a little spitfire! She and her two brothers are orphans, living on a remote island with crazy, carnivorous horses... but she's relatively happy. She's smart, brave, and determined... and she's an awesome rider. She has some guts, I must say. Respect to the first female race participant in the Scorpio Races!

Tris from Divergent by Veronica Roth
What is there to say about Tris? She's a little ball of courage, that one. She took a huge risk joining Dauntless... but not only was she able to survive the gruesome training, she excelled! Tris is such a strong character, you really can't help but root for her.

Finn from Incarceron and Sapphique by Catherine Fisher
How would you like to wake up somewhere awful and not remember who you are? Well, that's exactly what Finn goes through within the walls of the living prison, Incarceron. Though this poor guy is thrown into an awful situation, he rises above and makes the best of things.

Leisel (and Death) from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
The characters in this novel root themselves in your heart... even the spectacular narrator, Death! Leisel is an amazingly brave and strong young lady in a time and country full of danger and violence. I will never be able to fathom what she had to go through, but I admire her immensely.

Grace from Shiver, Linger and Forever by Maggie Stiefvater
Grace is so awesome. She's kind, funny, smart and absolutely dedicated to her loved ones. I love her relationship with Sam... I think it just might be the best one I've read.

Leo, Piper and Jason from The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
Rick Riordan has a gift for writing some of the most fun, amazing characters ever. Leo, Piper and Jason are characters you could definitely be friends with... and Leo, in particular, is seriously hilarious.

Lola from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
This girl has a seriously awesome personality... she also has a really fun sense of style! I loved her interactions with her friends and family. She's a quirky, colorful character and I enjoyed getting to know her... and watch her interactions with the ever-adorable Cricket Bell!

Kate from The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter
Poor, poor Kate. This girl has so much on her plate, but she takes what she has and makes the best out of it... she doesn't just accept her fate, but goes out in search of solutions. What a strong character!

Tessa from Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
Tessa is amazing, isn't she? She's kidnapped by crazy people on her way to visit her brother... meets some shadowhunters... finds out she's no ordinary girl... has to deal with evil villains and all sorts of other things. AND she deals with it all so swimmingly. Go Tessa!

Some awesome honorable mentions:

Carter and Sadie from The Red Pyramid and The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan

Skeeter from The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Thomas from The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Lena from Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
