Top 10 Book Covers of 2011

I've decided to join the Top 10 of 2011 awesomeness hosted by Confessions of a Bookaholic, A Life Bound By Books, Fiktshun and Two Chicks on Books! Every day this week, we'll be sharing our top 10 for various different topics. Oh my word... it's so hard to pick just 10!

Today's topic...

There were so many spectacular covers this year! I've decided to just share the covers from books released in 2011, not just ones I've read. I mean, honestly... I'm a seriously visual person, so a cover can sometimes be the difference between whether I snatch a book up (or want to, anyway) or I pass right over it. Dang... I have a lot of crossover books from the last Top 10 post! Oops. Oh well! Here are 10 of my favorites from this year (in no particular order):

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
This cover is simply breathtaking, in my opinion. It definitely sets the mood for the novel so well... dark, mysterious, makes you want to know what the heck is going on. Yeah, it's a great cover.

Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma
How can you not like this cover? The blue of the water, in and of itself, is absolutely striking! I love the red ribbon, the understated font, and the whole skewed aspect thing.

Hourglass by Myra McEntire
Yet another trippy perspective... She's on the wall? What?! I stared at that cover for ages, it had me so hooked. I need to hurry up and get my hands on a copy... like now!

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
When I first saw this cover, I thought it was cute. After reading the book, however, I have come to the conclusion that it's amazing. It's so perfect for Lola... and need I say it? CRICKET!!! The houses in the background, Lola's purple hair, even the star on the back of Cricket's hand is absolutely spot on. I'm in love with the boy on this cover! It makes me happy.

Across the Universe by Beth Revis
The stars! The *almost* kiss! The colors! I love absolutely everything about this cover. I know there's a new cover for the paperback, but I still prefer this one. AND the jacket flips over to show the schematics of the ship, if you so desire! How cool is that?!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
I adore this design. Everything is perfect about it. I know I've said that a lot, but it's true. I love the almost minimalist style and the colors and the cut-out images. It's just so... playful, yet mysterious!

Liesl and Po by Lauren Oliver
To me, this cover screams adventure and fun! The designer of this one is a freakin' genius, I tell you. It's absolutely perfect and looks even better in person! It even has a little "latch" on the right side. So cute!

Forever by Maggie Stiefvater
This is another example of a cover matching the book perfectly. I have loved every single one of the covers for Maggie's Wolves of Mercy Falls series, and this one is no exception. And bonus... the script in the book is red, just like the cover! I love that they kept that up in all three books. Love love love this cover!

Withering Tights by Louise Rennison
The book cover looks like a package of tights... TIGHTS! I mean, really? How incredibly fun is that?! Not to mention there's a cute little owl on it. Tights!! Genius bit of awesome, that.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
This cover freakin' rocks. It looks like it's just a normal little girl, standing in the middle of nowhere... until you notice that she's floating! Wha?! Yeah, it's that amazing. I love the filigree, the font for "Peculiar Children" and the black and white antique feeling. Absolutely perfect for the novel.

Okay... I hadn't planned on doing this, but I knew I was missing something. Really, there are simply too many awesome covers! Here are a few honorable mentions:

The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan
Why is this an honorable mention? Because... Percy! When I first saw it, of course I was all, "Percy!" Then I saw that he was on a slab of ice holding an eagle... why is he on a slab of ice?! Don't hurt Percy! Yeah... I like this cover a lot.

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
You know how I said I liked the other cover because of the lovely Percy? Well... yeah, you got it... Jem! I am so hoping Cassie Clare is nice to this poor guy as the series continues. I have yet to read this one, but I'm so excited! Please Cassie... please be kind!!
