Tune in Tuesday (31) - Book Playlists Edition!

Tune in Tuesday is a weekly music feature hosted by the fabulous Ginger at GReads. As some of you may know, I am ridiculously addicted to music. One of my favorite things to do is share new and favorite songs with anyone willing to listen. Or not so willing. I'm not picky. Anyway... Each week you can post a song and share the love of music. So link up and join the fun!
I am extremely excited about this month's special edition of Tune in Tuesday. Why am I so excited about it? Well... it's Book Playlists Edition! Woo Hoo! This month is all about combining the awesomeness of books and music together. If you have a great idea for a book/song combo or there's an author playlist you simply adore, feel free to share it by joining the meme or letting me know in the comments. Let the fun begin!

Sometimes there's a book that just SCREAMS for a playlist. Across the Universe by Beth Revis is one such book. Nobody was more surprised than I was when I fell in love with a sci-fi book, but there's just something about this fantastic novel (and the sequel, A Million Suns)... I absolutely adore it. Anyway, I've been compiling a playlist just for fun (and because I'm a dork), so I thought I'd share some of the tunes this week. So without further ado, here are a few of my Across the Universe-inspired tracks!

Starlight by Muse
Far away
This ship has taken me far away
Far away from the memories
Of the people who care if I live or die

My life
You electrify my life
Let's conspire to ignite
All the souls that would die just to feel alive

Now I know I've already shared this song once before during one of my Concert Editions, but this is PERFECT for Across the Universe! At least I think so. Just give it a listen and you'll see. :)

Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes
I was raised up believing
I was somehow unique
Like a snowflake, distinct among snowflakes
Unique in each way you can see

If I know only one thing
It's that everything that I see
Of the world outside is so inconceivable
Often I barely can speak

Oh Elder, this song makes me think of you. If you've read the book, I think you can see why this reminds me of him. Besides, this song is simply amazing.

Mouthful of Diamonds by Phantogram
You've got a mouthful of diamonds
And a pocketful of secrets
I know you're never telling anyone
Because the patterns, they control your mind
Those patterns take away my time
Hello, goodbye

Wasted
You tell the truth when you could've lied
And troubles
Are on the rise 'cause you're in disguise

This song just sounds like Across the Universe to me. It makes me think of Eldest and Elder at different parts, but it just fits. I know it might seem like an odd fit, but I like it.

Impossible by Anberlin
You're impossible, but lovely
So impossible, to win or please
You're wearing me out
Just wearing me out
But I'm wearing you down

I'm impossible
To figure out
So impossible
You had your doubts

I didn't want to give any spoilers for A Million Suns, but I wanted to share one of the songs from that playlist... I figured this was a safe one to share. In book two, Amy is even more impossible for Elder to understand. He knows he likes her, but does she like him? Does she not like him? What does she want with him?! She's a total mystery to Elder and I thought this song was pretty perfect for that feeling.

Beyond the Sea by Robbie Williams
Somewhere beyond the sea
She's there watching for me
And if I could fly
Like birds on high
Then straight to her arms
I'd go sailing

It's far beyond the stars
It's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon

On behalf of my sister, here's a tribute song to the amazing Harley. My sister (Sarah) thinks this song is perfect for Harley, and I have to agree with her. Beyond the Sea (of stars...heheh) just feels so... it feels like Harley, ya know? There's also a part in Across the Universe that Sarah said she imagined this song playing... but I can't tell you which part. Let's just say that if you've read it, you know which part we're talking about. Bwahaha.

By the way, if you have any wonderful songs I can add to my Across the Universe playlist, please share them in the comments below! You can never have too many songs, right? :)

  1. Fleet Foxes are one my favourite bands! Absolutely love their latest album, I had it on a constant loop when I first bought it. Muse are as awesome as ever and I'd not heard Mouthful of Diamonds or Impossible before but I really enjoyed them. :)
