Tune in Tuesday is a weekly music feature hosted by the fabulous Ginger at GReads. As some of you may know, I am ridiculously addicted to music. One of my favorite things to do is share new and favorite songs with anyone willing to listen. Or not so willing. I'm not picky. Anyway... Each week you can post a song and share the love of music. So link up and join the fun!I am extremely excited about this month's special edition of Tune in Tuesday. Why am I so excited about it? Well... it's Book Playlists Edition! Woo Hoo! This month is all about combining the awesomeness of books and music together. If you have a great idea for a book/song combo or there's an author playlist you simply adore, feel free to share it by joining the meme or letting me know in the comments. Let the fun begin!
In celebration of The Hunger Games film coming out this week, I've decided to share some songs I feel are perfect for the series (The Hunger Games
I'm an EXTREMELY HUGE fan of Suzanne Collins and all things Hunger Games, so I thought it only fitting that I should combine that love with another one: music. Sometimes there's something that just grips you, permeates everything you think and do and simply inspires you. It changes your life. The Hunger Games
Stadium Love
by Metric
Wanna make a bet?
Odds are neck and neck
Taking off the gloves
Every living thing
Pushed into the ring
Fight it out to wow the crowd
Guess you thought
You could just watch
No one's getting out
Without stadium love
We got stadium love
It's hard to believe there are those in the world of Panem who view the Games as just that: a game. It's sickening. Kids are put into an arena to fight to the death, and rich, vain, clueless people make wagers on which Tribute will win. This song portrays that attitude perfectly, in my opinion.
Warrior Poet
by The Classic Crime
It couldn't be more far from the truth
If you could do to me the things you would do
And I know you're on to me
I'm watching you wanting me
You hunt down the rebels and punish them wrongfully
You came with fire and weapons to kill
(chorus) A warrior poet once said
You're not dead yet
So live like you could be
A warrior poet said
Have no regrets when you're old
I'm not looking for you to be anything
But my ultimate enemy
So back off, you're not what I would prefer to see
When my body rots I still won't give you the courtesy
You came with fire for the last time
When your body wants to run
But your heart knows you're better than that
The blood you spilled on battlefields
I promise you will not go unspent
Neither will I leave you stranded
The promise rings as our battle cry
You're never alone regardless of doubt
To me, this song is perfect. It just is. It simply SCREAMS Hunger Games to me! Why, might you ask? Well, in the first and second parts (minus the chorus), it makes me think of something Katniss would say to President Snow/the Gamemakers. Then we have the last part and it makes me think of how Katniss is trying everything to not give up... so she makes a promise to herself, her family and all of Panem that she will do everything in her power to help them prevail. Oh my gosh, I'm getting goosebumps just THINKING about this! Gah! I hope you love it, too.
Little Hell
by City and Colour
What if I can't be all that you need me to be?
We've got a good thing goin'
We have some promises to keep
But my addiction, it can be such a detriment
Please believe in this my dear, I am more than penitent
What if everything's just the way that it will be?
Could it be that I am meant to cause you all this grief?
My warships' are lying off the coast of your
Delicate heart and my aim is set in true
As it's been right from the start
There's a degree of difficulty in dealing with me
From my haunted past
Comes a daunting task
Of living through memories
So when we leave
Be a quick, midnight escape
We'll disconnect ourselves from all of yesterday
I'll dig for water
And fashion our very own wishing well
Then we'll throw our coins down
Hoping to rid us of this little hell
Will we get out of this little hell?
Katniss and Peeta go through so much during the series. They're trying to be happy and move on, but their past catches up with them... bringing nightmares and becoming they're own "little hell." I think this song is just... it's perfect. Though they may never fully escape the horrible memories of the Hunger Games, they have each other to help make it a little easier.
Bonus tracks:
Uprising
by Muse
I know everybody uses this song, but I wanted to share it anyway... so it's kind of a perfect bonus track! (And my Mum would be upset with me if I didn't share it, because it's her perfect Hunger Games song.) This song and this book are a match made in dystopian heaven.
The Fox
by Niki & the Dove
This song just sounds like it should be in The Hunger Games, don't you think? It made me instantly think of Foxface, hence why I decided to share it as a bonus track. I also really like this song, too... so that's another reason to share it.
AND just because I have an extra copy of The Hunger Games (in paperback) on my bookshelf, I'm going to do a giveaway! I thought it might be fun for those who have yet to read this amazing novel... or for anyone still waiting for their own copy. Anyway... this giveaway is going to be quick. It will run from now until Wednesday (March 21st). I'll announce a winner on Thursday or Friday at some point (it may take a while, 'cause I'll be sleeping in due to attending to midnight showing!) and get it shipped off as soon as I can (I'm hoping to ship it on Friday). I'm sorry, but only US residents will be eligible for this giveaway. Just fill out the Rafflecopter below!
