Tune in Tuesday (30) - Book Playlists Edition!

Tune in Tuesday is a weekly music feature hosted by the fabulous Ginger at GReads. As some of you may know, I am ridiculously addicted to music. One of my favorite things to do is share new and favorite songs with anyone willing to listen. Or not so willing. I'm not picky. Anyway... Each week you can post a song and share the love of music. So link up and join the fun!
I am extremely excited about this month's special edition of Tune in Tuesday. Why am I so excited about it? Well... it's Book Playlists Edition! Woo Hoo! This month is all about combining the awesomeness of books and music together. If you have a great idea for a book/song combo or there's an author playlist you simply adore, feel free to share it!

As I said, I was really excited about this month's theme. I started working on it ages ago, but then I faced a dilemma... how in the world was I going to pull this off?! I had so many ideas and no clue how to narrow it down and whatnot. Then my life was thrown into a little bit of fun chaos, and almost everything got put on hold for a bit (including blogging and reading *gasp*). Soooo... I thought for this first week, I would share a few songs that I feel go with a few amazing books. So here goes! (Warning: I'm going to try to make this as spoiler-free as possible, but I make no promises.)

Marchin' On by OneRepublic + Legend by Marie Lu

For those doubts that swirl all around us
For those lives that tear at the seams
We know
We're not what we've seen

We'll have the days we break
And we'll have the scars to prove it
We'll have the bombs that we saved
And we'll have the heart
Not to lose it

We're marchin' on

I don't know why, but I think this song is perfect for Legend by Marie Lu. Here I was, just listening to my iPod and this song popped up... and I immediately thought of this book. More specifically, it made me think of the end when everything's gone down, life has completely changed for June and Day, and yet they keep moving on. Or marching on, as the case may be.

Resistance by Muse + Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Is our secret safe tonight
And are we out of sight
Or will our world come tumbling down?
Will they find our hiding place
Is this our last embrace
Or will the walls start caving in?

Love is our resistance
They'll keep us apart
And they won't stop breaking us down
Hold me
Our lips must always be sealed

Um... yeah. I think these two are a perfect match. If you listen to all of the lyrics, it's like they were made for Delirium or something. I was told Resistance could also be a good fit for Ally Condie's Matched series, which I think I can see, but still prefer it with Delirium. Muse is so wonderful and perfect for dystopian literature, wouldn't you agree?

You Get Me by Michelle Branch + Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Who wants to be ordinary
In a crazy mixed up world
I don't care what they're saying
As long as I'm your girl

You get me
When nobody understands
You come and take a chance
Baby you get me
You look inside my wild mind
Never knowing what you'll find
Still you want me all the time
Yeah, you do
Yeah, you get me

This one just fell into my lap and screamed Lola and Cricket! It's definitely an older song, but it's cute and I think it's a nice fit for this amazing novel. There were a few other songs that I thought were nice, but I kept going back to this one.

O Death by Jen Titus + The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Oh, Death
Won't you spare me over another year?

But what is this, that I can't see,
With ice cold hands taking hold of me?

When God is gone and the Devil takes hold,
Who will have mercy on your soul?

Well I am Death, none can excel,
I'll open the door to heaven or hell.

My name is Death and the end is here...

This is a strange one, but I simply had to add it. Who knew watching an episode of Supernatural would introduce me to this haunting (yet spectacular) version of Oh Death... and in turn pop back into my head whilst reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer? I love this. You have no idea.

  1. OH MY GOD. I've been looking for that song (Oh Death) since first seeing it in Supernatural! Death got the best entrance out of all the Horsemen & I think this song played a part in that. THANK YOU! lol!
