There's just something magical and captivating about the wondrous tale of the boy who never grows up. For as long as I can remember, I have been in love with anything and everything
Peter Pan
. J. M. Barrie's timeless classic can speak to anyone, regardless of age or situation. This year, Jen over at
Literally Jen asked if I wanted to join her in doing something special for Mr. Barrie's birthday. Naturally, I said yes!

To celebrate this amazing author on his birthday, I decided to watch and read some
Peter Pan themed films and books. One of my favorite movies of all-time is
Finding Neverland
. Oh my word, I love this movie. I absolutely adore how the film not only shows the creation of
Peter Pan, but also shows the magic, imagination and spirit of the boy who never grew up. You really get to
see Mr. Barrie's inspiration and thought process. I love it! He's truly one of the most imaginative, playful, visionary people ever. As for the casting, it couldn't have been better. Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet and the boys are simply amazing. One of my favorite scenes is when the children and Mr. Barrie are pretending to be pirates. The shot jumps from what's really happening to what they see with their imagination. It really comes to life! If only everyone could keep that sense of adventure! I have and will always adore this movie. It's positively magical.
I decided to read my well-loved copy of
Peter Pan again, but I also wanted to read something new. I figured the best choice would be to read the "official" sequel to the classic,
Peter Pan in Scarlet
by Geraldine McCaughrean. Perfect, right? Right! Unfortunately, time got away from me and I didn't get to finish the book by today. At first I wasn't quite sure what to think of it, as it is so very different, but I'm really starting to get into it. I can't wait to see where this adventure takes me!
As I've said before, I'm a big
Peter Pan fan and I am very pleased there are so many wonderful adaptions! If you have yet to partake in the awesomeness that is
Peter Pan, I suggest you do that right now. Pick a film adaptation. Catch a play in the theatre. Pick up the original novel. Jump in and prepare for a fantastic adventure! As for myself, in addition to what I've already watched or read, I'm going to fall asleep to either
Disney's animated classic
or the magnificent
live action
version!
Thank you J. M. Barrie for your youthful spirit! You have definitely inspired many (including myself) to fully adopt Peter Pan's philosophy. I will never grow up!
